With many years of experience in the design and advertising industry as both art director and graphic designer (1987–2001), Huus has developed extensive professional expertise in visual communication. She has been affiliated with the Bergen Academy of Art and Design since 2001 and was instrumental in building up, coordinating and developing the master’s programme at the Department of Design from its inception in 2004 until 2013. Åse Huus also has a Diploma in subject-specific pedagogy from Telemark University College (Høgskolen i Telemark) and from Bergen Teacher Training College (Lærerhøgskolen i Bergen, media studies).
In her artistic research, Huus develops projects based on visual observation, wonder and ambiguity. Her project Quiet Observations addresses key questions such as: What might be the link between ambiguity as a phenomenon (in the sense of multiple interpretations) and creative processes and reflection? How can one reflect on, express and experiment with ambiguity and wonder? And – why would such an exploration be relevant in the time we live in right now? In 2016, video works from Huus’ project were shown at the group exhibition ‘Inside Wood’ in Milano, Italy: ‘Sometimes a tree can tell you more than can be read in books.’
